What is a Vermont Extension?

To receive a 5-month extension of time to file your 2020 income tax return, file Form IN-151 on or before May 17, 2021. This extension extends the filing due date to October 15, 2021.

An extension only allows more time to file the income tax return. It does not extend the due date for tax payment. Interest and penalty accrue on tax due from the day the tax is due to the receipt of payment.

Note: There is no extension of time to file a homestead declaration or property tax credit (Form HS-122). You may file HS-122 up to October 15, 2021, but you will be charged a penalty for late file.

However, the Renter Rebate Claim (Form PR-141) can be late filed up to October 15, 2021 with no penalty for late file.
