Questions & Answers
What is a Vermont Extension?
An extension allows additional time (6 months) to file your 2021 tax return. If you expect to get a refund and you filed a federal extension, you aren't required to file a Vermont extension. If you expect to owe taxes and need to make an extension payment, file Form IN-151 on or before April 18, 2022.
An extension only allows more time to file the income tax return. It does not extend the due date for the tax payment. Interest and penalty accrue on tax due from the day the tax is due to the receipt of payment.
The extension and tax payment is due by April 18, 2021. Extended returns must be filed by Oct. 17, 2021.
Note: There is no extension of time to file a Homestead Declaration or Property Tax Credit (Form HS-122). You may file Form HS-122 up to October 17, 2022, but you will be charged a penalty for late file.
